Pictures from the Storm

February 7, 2008 / by elfie33

Here are just a few pictures from the storm in one of the local communities.

This is what's left of one of the dorms at Union University

One of the roads going into the Fairview Community

 The Aftermath

Just one of the tree ripped out of the ground

Getting around wasn't that easy

Even getting out of your own driveway isn't easy

Some of the work crews trying to clear the roads.

Neighborhoods are banding together, as are whole communities.  The county where I work has set up donation spots at local churches, and are feeding the families and volunteers.   Clean up is slow...but it's progressing.

Every time I listen to the radio or see TV the death toll keeps rising.   Macon country (in TN.)  had 15 deaths there...and it isn't a very populated area, if it had been lord knows how many could have been killed.

WOW. sure hope you were ok throughout all of this

We were very lucky that the storm went above us by a few miles.   I drive thru several communities that weren't so lucky.   Brushy and Aetna looked like a bomb area.  It was an awful site...

Surprised Shocking damage! On the Today Show this morning, Matt Lauer interviewed students from the University, and other families. Heart wrenching stories!

After you see the pictures at Union University, you know how lucky those kids were...no one was seriously hurt...it could have turned out much worse...

The pictures tell of Nature's fury. I read it described as looking as though the Lord took a brillo pad and scrubbed the earth. It is amazing that more people were not killed.

That is so true...after driving thru the Brushy and Aetna communites I was shocked, huge massive trees missed homes by just mire inches...it could have been so much worse....granted it's awful...but luckly no one was killed.   In Macon county TN...there were 15 deaths,  this is a tiny community...even if would have been more heavily populated lord knows what would have happened.

I saw news footage of the devastation.  it looked like an A-Bomb had gone off there. It was horrendous.  I also read the story of the baby found alive in the rubble (see fredo's comment). Its mother died but the baby lived. How miraculous is that?

Some of these communities look like the finger of God came down and wiped them clean.   Yesterday I blogged about the Brushy and Aetna communities that I drive thru on the way to work.   I was shocked....the distruction was massive.   But luckily no one was killed.   Huge trees were just inches from being inside homes, even a day later people are still rounding up cattle and horses.   One gentleman in the Brushy community got a call on his cell phone today...and man found one of his daughters baseball cards with his daughters name and phone number on it...in Goodlettsville TN.    That is almost 75 miles away!!!

I just watched the story again about the baby that was found.  What a mess, how awful things are there, so sad.  Again I will say how much of a relief it is that you and yours are ok.  Be careful driving around and pray there won't be any more storms like that one.

Just incredible. Great photos. A tornado missed my house by a half a mile many years ago. Devastating consequences. My heart cries out to the victims.

We've been in the path of several also..and have been very lucky not to have that much damage.   The pictures were out of the Tennessean.
