Normal People Worry Me...

February 24, 2008 / by elfie33

I've been hearing a lot lately of people talking about who is normal...and who is not.

Fighting over words that belong to others.  Freaking out over how people live their lives because they aren't what other's think is normal....

I'm a little confused as to what folks consider normal.

Why would we want everyone to be the same?

One of my favorite quotes is: Normal is a setting on a washing machine nothing else.

Personally I like being a little strange, I think people ask you less questions that way...

So tell me blogsters what is normal?

"Being 'weird' is one of the most best complements you could ever give someone. If no one in the world was weird, everything would be normal, and that's boring. Be different. Stand out. Be the sore thumb that got hammered a couple times by a heavy mallet. Be that sole bird that's flying in the exact opposite direction everyone else is and hasn't a clue it's winter."

I feel the same way elfie! One of my fav students of all times said to me once "You're one strange bird Sra."

I took it as a compliment

  • elfie33 said 6 months ago

I would take it as a compliment too.   If everyone was the same it would get pretty boring..

We all should march to our own tune--whether near or far away! Conformity is the hobgoblins of little minds! Some of our greatest poets, artists, philosophers and statesmen were considered weird, and now my friend you know the weird facts!

You are so true, that's what I can't understand so many folks fighting about.   Being different is what makes this world and blogster so great.  Isn't that why you read blogs....to find out about other people who have different lifestyles or whatever from yourself....

In my city, we have a very large advertising campaign devoted entirely to "Keep Louisville Wierd," T-shirts, bumper stickers etc. As for my very old self, "I've always been crazy, but it keeps me from going insane"!!!

  • elfie33 said 6 months ago

I always say I like being crazy people don't ask you as many questions that way...LOL   Thanks for stopping by Laughing

You asked this question, "Why would everybody want to be the same?"  If people are so worried and concerned about "being normal", then I ask that same question!  "Why WOULD everybody want to be the same"...because THAT wouldn't be normal!  Therefore, being different IS already being normal!

I AM DIFFERENT, THEREFORE I AM NORMAL! And, I for one LOVE all my NORMALLY DIFFERENT friends!  C'mere, elfie...and all of you other "weirdos", let me give you a great big NORMAL  ***HUG***!

One thing normal is not: when TV weathermen (and women) inform us the temperatures are above or below "normal". It's AVERAGE!  It's normally NOT normal.  But that's just me.

  • elfie33 said 6 months ago

Weather wizards always make me nuts..LOL

  • mellowdee said 6 months ago

"Normal is a setting on a washing machine nothing else." Great quote!!

  • elfie33 said 5 months ago

I heard that one day and fell in love with it...that's one of my motto's..LOL

  • jwrone said 6 months ago

Why would anyone want to be "normal"? Personally I prefer people who are, to quote Bill Engvall, "I'm 15 degrees off Cool." It keeps life interesting!Cool

  • elfie33 said 5 months ago

Yes it does...keeps you on your toes..LOL

What a great topic....and it brings to mind so many things....like Why is it called "common sense" when it appears to be so darned UNcommon that people have any sense!!!!! I've always been proud to be "different" - weird - whatever tag someone wants to put on it.  It also makes me think about all the blah-blah-blah I've heard over the years about "dysfunctional families"....so tell me....what exactly is a functional family?

Great post!  I loved it and love you too! Hugs from the weird people who would move from Florida to Missouri in the middle of winter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • elfie33 said 5 months ago

I was wondering how yall's move was going...I've moved in the middle of winter before and talk about a wild ride..LOL   Was not the best thing I've ever done..LOL   *huggers*

I'm so glad you asked this very question...you can ask Dale how I have responded to what people say is normal.  The truth is, there is no such thing as normal.  What you may consider "normal" may not be normal to me so why say it is "normal"?  I did take a college sociology class and we spoke of norms which is just saying going with the flow of society, but why do with the flow of society?  Just except everyone for who they are and if you don't like a person there is no need to bash them for what you consider wrong cause it may not be wrong to them (of course that doesn't mean that the "abnormal" should break written laws of their society just to prove there is no "normal" lol)  I know there are things that I do that people wouldn't consider "normal" but then again I am from Louisiana and you know elfie as well as I do that people in Louisiana can be wierd lol.  Anyways, does this answer your question?  Laughing

  • elfie33 said 5 months ago

You and I have always thought a lot alike..we have to be related some way...LOL *hugs tight* and yes you did answer my question..*grins*

I like being unconventional although it has a cost sometimes.  Not as much as it used to, however.  Everyone is crazy but me and thee and sometimes I wonder about thee!

  • elfie33 said 5 months ago
